We left Miami On New Years day heading towards Marathon, our next destination. We got a late start since we were up late for ringing in 2010 watching all the fireworks and a loud party on the island we were anchored next to. We decided to go about 50 miles and anchor in a place called Tarpon Basin. We made it to our anchorage right after it started raining and blowing,,,needless to say it wasn't much fun but little did we know that it was just the beginning of a very long night of dragging anchor and moving 2 more times till we found some good sand that would hold the anchor. I think it was 5:30am when I could finally get some sleep. I am sure the winds were gusting to 35 knots. This is the bad part of cruising but we have been very lucky with having good weather up until now. We got up late and decided that now that the anchor was set well and the wind was still pretty strong that we would just wait another day to leave here as we had part of our way today would have about 15 miles of wide open water.
So tomorrow we will hit the trail again.
